“I ask not only on behalf of these, but also on behalf of those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one. As you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they also be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.” - Jn 17:20, 21
Our diocesan pastoral plan, Uniting in Heart, calls us to create opportunities in the diocese to engage ecumenically, promoting the unity of Church desired by Christ, in the Holy Spirit, for the salvation and strengthening of souls, and the common good.
Christ always gives His Church the gift of unity, but the Church must always pray and work to maintain, reinforce, and perfect the unity that Christ wills for her.
(Catechism of the Catholic Church)
“Prayer is the soul of the ecumenical movement. Prayer is important because prayer's effect is in us. Prayer changes our hearts, and it is our hearts that most of all need to be changed.” (Vatican II Document: Decree on Ecumenism)
